— Importers of foodstuffs expect the prices of various grains, especially those
imported from Turkey, to increase due to the recent earthquake that affected
Turkey and Syria.

Some
varieties of grains will witness an increase, including chickpeas, bulgur, lentils,
and other grains, with prices expected to rise between 5 to 10 percent due to
Turkey's temporary halt on exporting these items, according to importers,
Khaberni reported.
Mustafa
Khrafan, an importer, confirmed that the
prices of grains imported from Turkey
will see increases in the aforementioned range, as Turkey is expected to stop
exporting these items due to the recent earthquake that affected the country. The
price of medium-grain rice will remain stable, he added, despite global
increases.
The
price of a tonne of medium-grain rice reaching around 1,500 euros on Tuesday.
‘Still within normal rangeTrader
Waleed Al-Daher agreed with Khrafan's predictions of an increase in
prices of some grains, including lentils and bulgur imported from Turkey.
Daher
added that the prices of foodstuffs in the local market are still within their
usual range, and no significant price hikes have occurred due to the prevailing
economic conditions and decreased purchasing power among citizens.
A
report issued by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicted
continued
low supplies of grains in the 2022–2023 period.
