Some varieties of grains will witness an increase, including chickpeas, bulgur, lentils, and other grains, with prices expected to rise between 5 to 10 percent due to Turkey's temporary halt on exporting these items, according to importers, Khaberni reported.

Mustafa Khrafan, an importer, confirmed that the prices of grains imported from Turkey will see increases in the aforementioned range, as Turkey is expected to stop exporting these items due to the recent earthquake that affected the country. The price of medium-grain rice will remain stable, he added, despite global increases.

The price of a tonne of medium-grain rice reaching around 1,500 euros on Tuesday.

‘Still within normal rangeTrader Waleed Al-Daher agreed with Khrafan's predictions of an increase in prices of some grains, including lentils and bulgur imported from Turkey.

Daher added that the prices of foodstuffs in the local market are still within their usual range, and no significant price hikes have occurred due to the prevailing economic conditions and decreased purchasing power among citizens.

A report issued by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicted continued low supplies of grains in the 2022–2023 period.
