According to
reports by Ammon, the General Secretariat of the Arab League's Information and
Communication Sector has received feedback regarding Jordan's submission.
Three pathwaysThe proposed
law outlines three pathways for regulating connections with international media
companies. The first pathway aims to protect Arab interests from negative
content that could appear on these platforms, with a particular focus on issues
related to the
Palestinian cause and Islamophobia.
The second
pathway deals with deleting content that involves hate speech, false news, and
breaches of privacy.
The first pathway aims to protect Arab interests from negative content that could appear on these platforms, with a particular focus on issues related to the Palestinian cause and Islamophobia.
The third
pathway focuses on media rights in the advertising market. Social media
platforms have begun to acquire the largest share of this market.
The Jordanian
proposal suggests securing media rights in this area to ensure fair
representation of local and Arab media.
Official
figures released by the Central Bank show that social
media platforms, excluding TikTok, earned $81 million from local market advertisements in 2022.
European
countries view the social media advertising market as a media right and a
property of their own, and adopting this perspective could help local and Arab
media.
