AMMAN — A cold air mass is forecast
to bring additional precipitation across the Kingdom later today, with limited
snowfall expected in the country's southern mountainous areas, the Jordan News
Agency, Petra, reported.

The
Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD)
predicted downpours in the northern and central regions of the country today.
Heavy rainfall will spread to other areas
in the afternoon, causing flash floods in valleys and lowlands, including the
Dead Sea area, according to the JMD. Brisk westerly winds are also expected,
with gusts exceeding 70km per hour in some areas, raising dust in the Badias.
The
JMD issued alerts about flash floods,
strong winds, slick roads, and poor visibility in the Badias and the highlands
due to dust and dense fog.
Snowfall in the southHigh mountain peaks over 1,100m above sea
level, including the Al-Sharah mountain range in the south, are predicted to
witness snowfall overnight and early on Thursday morning.
The director of
Arab Weather, Muhammad
Al-Shaker, told Al-Mamlaka TV that "it is possible that snow will fall
after midnight on the highest peaks in Amman and Balqa, but it is unlikely to
accumulate."
Shaker predicted that southern parts of the
Kingdom will be affected by freezing temperatures, with a possibility of snow
accumulation in Al-Rashadiyah and Al-Qadisiyah in Tafileh Governorate.
Cold temperaturesTemperatures in Amman today will range
between a high of 10 degrees Celsius and a low of 2 degrees at night, while the
port city of Aqaba will witness a fair 21 degrees Celsius during the day,
dropping to 11 degrees at night.
In the Sharah mountains, temperatures are
expected to range between 0 and 7 degrees Celsius, while the Badias are
predicted to witness a high of 14 degrees and a low of 3 degrees.
Thursday showersOn Thursday, similar cold and rainy weather
is expected, with a chance of snow flurries over the high peaks of the Sharah
range. Northwesterly winds will be brisk, with strong gusts.
Chances of precipitation are predicted to drop
around noon on Thursday as clouds dissipate and give way to clearer skies.
