Petra sees surge in tourists, on track to break record by year-end — PDRTA

AMMAN — The ancient city of Petra is experiencing a significant rise in tourist arrivals, raising the possibility of breaking the record for the highest number of visitors by the end of this year. اضافة اعلان

According to recent data released by the Petra Tourism Development Region Authority (PDTRA), a remarkable 610,722 tourists explored the wonders of Petra during the first five months of 2023, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Chief Commissioner Suleiman Farajat of PDTRA stated that this upward trajectory in visitor numbers could potentially result in a new record, with an estimated 1.5 million visitors expected by the close of the year.

42% growth compared to last year
Monthly statistics highlight a substantial surge in May 2023, with a total of 139,685 individuals visiting Petra, signifying a remarkable 42-percent growth compared to the same month in the previous year.

Among these visitors, 119,128 were foreigners, 4,912 were Jordanian nationals, and 13,982 hailed from other Arab countries.

Emphasizing the significance of this surge in tourism, Farajat affirmed that PDTRA is committed to undertaking necessary measures to ensure a unique and exceptional experience for visitors during the upcoming tourist season.
