AMMAN — Prices of red meat are predicted to surge in the coming few
weeks due to heightened demand, according to a local media outlet.

The current prices for local
red meat stand at JD9 to JD10 per kilogram,
with imported varieties of fresh, frozen, and chilled red meat priced
differently based on their country of origin.
Data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) shows that the average Jordanian consumes approximately 38kg of
red meat annually, making them the sixth-highest consumers of
red meat in the
Arab world.
Despite a 4.2 percent increase in the general price index for
consumer prices during the first 11 months of 2022,
red meat prices saw a dip
of 1.8 percent in October due to lower demand.
