— A research team from the Queen Rania Faculty of Tourism and Heritage at the
Hashemite University has successfully documented new routes in the
Zarqa Governorate, which will be included in the strategic plan for tourism
development for 2023-2024.

The
project is a collaboration between the
Zarqa Governorate Council, the Ministry
of Tourism, Al al-Bayt University, the Jordanian Historians Association, the
Yajouz Forum, the Al-Halabat Municipality, and various private sector
institutions, reported the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Mohammad
Waheeb, a professor and member of the scientific committee of the project, said
the team specializes in archaeology and has been working closely with the
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through the Scientific
Research and Innovation Support Fund.
A
comprehensive book has been published which includes the main path, its
sub-paths, and tourist sources, he added.

tourist sitesWaheeb
highlighted that the
Zarqa Governorate has a wealth of significant tourist sites,
relevant both locally and internationally.
Among
the most notable discoveries are the largest reptilian bird bones that were found
on the surface of the phosphate mines of Al-Ruseifa, and the oldest
astronomical map of the sky, represented on the dome of the hammam in Quseir
Amra, among others.
The
research team plans to hold a ceremony in the coming period to launch the book
of the Zarqa tourist routes and distribute it to the seven municipalities in
the
Zarqa Governorate and civil society organizations.
Efforts
will also be made to speed up the issuance of tourist brochures and a guide to
the Zarqa Governorate, in order to attract investors, increase the number of
visitors, and create job opportunities in the tourism sector in Zarqa.
