AMMAN — Low levels of precipitation
in the northern regions of the Kingdom are causing concern among farmers, Director-General
of the Jordan Farmers Union Mahmoud Al-Oran said on Thursday.

This is despite heavy
rains in the southern and eastern regions of the Kingdom, he said, which
occurred due to
atmospheric instability, according to Khaberni.
The decline in
average precipitation in the north will lead to low wheat and barley
production, and will negatively affect water harvesting activities and spring
water, Oran explained.
However, weather
forecasts suggest that the Kingdom will receive some precipitation in the month
of February, he added.
“We must be careful
and take precautions,” he said, pointing to the need for scientific studies that
determine trees that can
tolerate weak rainfall and the
Jordanian climate.
