Despite social media platforms largely focusing on steering focus
to the content of
the film and the message that it tried to convey, users were
divided in their praise or criticism.
Those who supported the film lauded its “accurate take”, stating
that it represents reality, while others criticized it for presenting a “false representation”
of Jordanian society.
Others were also displeased with the use of obscene language.
Al-Hara, written and directed by Bassel Ghandour, was screened in
in local theaters and in two Arab countries last June.
The film is partially funded by the Jordan Film Fund of the
Royal Film Commission of Jordan, the Doha Film Institute in Qatar, and the Red Sea
Film Festival Film Development Laboratory in Saudi Arabia.
Crime and mystery dominated the teaser with night scenes featuring
the firearms, chases, and romantic relationships.
The film stars Emad Azmy, Baraka Rahmani, Monzer Reyahnah, Maisa
Abd Elhadi, Nadira Omran, and Nadim Remawi.
Al-Hara began streaming on Netflix as of January 5.
