AMMAN — In continuation of His Majesty
King Abdullah’s recent meetings with dignitaries of the southern Petra region,
Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi met with a number of the region's figures on Thursday
to learn about their demands, proposals, and needs.

During the meeting, held at the
Royal Hashemite Court, Issawi affirmed His Majesty's pride in the "remarkable"
role the people of Petra have played in building the country and preserving its
security and stability.

His Majesty, he said, always stresses the
importance of alleviating citizens' pressures and harnessing available
opportunities to reduce poverty and unemployment, especially through
small- and medium-sized productive projects that target youth and women.
Issawi, who is also head of the follow-up
committee for the implementation of His Majesty’s initiatives, noted that the
execution of
Royal initiatives in the Petra district is "ongoing", while
the focus during the coming stage will be on productive and development
projects that create job opportunities for youth.
In addition, he pointed to the
implementation of a number of projects through Royal initiatives in the
district in the sectors of education, health, tourism, heritage, housing for
underprivileged families, charitable works, and civil society initiatives.
