In late December, the Water
Ministry had announced that all technical and administrative procedures had
been completed for issuing
monthly water bills as of January.
Despite the delay, Najjar confirmed that the
system will, in fact, be implemented in 2023.
Speaking during a meeting of
Parliament’s Finance Committee on Tuesday, the minister said the
new monthly bills will involve a cut-off of JD2.5 for water consumption below six cubic
meters.
He also made reference to further
planned developments in the Kingdom’s utility billing system.
Despite the delay, Najjar confirmed that the system will, in fact, be implemented in 2023.
"We are working to implement
a
unified electricity and water bill over the coming years through a single collector
with a one-time payment, in order to alleviate the burdens on citizens,” he
said.
Do monthly bills mean extra fees?In December, the ministry
stated that it would not be imposing any additional fees on water with the
switch to monthly billing, and that there would be no change or increase in
prices.
Furthermore, the ministry said at the time, water delivery would not be suspended in the event of
an unpaid monthly bill.
