TikTok to resume services in Jordan if gov’t demands are met — minister

AMMAN — Social media platform TikTok’s return of services depends on the application’s compliance to demands to regulate and monitor content, Minister of Government Communications Faisal Al-Shboul told local media outlets on Sunday. He also added that services are unlikely to resume unless demands were met. According to Shboul, the cybercrime unit flagged videos of bombings circulating on the platform with users falsely stating that they were taking place in the Kingdom, which influenced the suspension of TikTok’s services. He added that local authorities are currently in talks over steps needed to reactivate the platform. Shboul also emphasized the danger of the unregulated content on children. He added that the government is working to pass a law to regulate social networking sites in coordination with the League of Arab States.
