AMMAN — Social media
platform TikTok’s return of services depends on the application’s compliance to
demands to regulate and monitor content, Minister of Government Communications
Faisal Al-Shboul told local media outlets on Sunday.
He also added that services are unlikely to resume unless demands were met.
According to Shboul, the
cybercrime unit flagged videos of bombings circulating on the platform with
users falsely stating that they were taking place in the Kingdom, which
influenced the suspension of TikTok’s services.
He added that local authorities
are currently in talks over steps needed to reactivate the platform.
Shboul also emphasized the danger
of the unregulated content on children.
He added that the government is working
to pass a law to regulate social networking sites in coordination with the
League of Arab States.
