AMMAN — The
Director-General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Hussam Abu Ali, has
announced the first-ever use of
artificial intelligence (AI) in Jordan to audit
tax returns submitted by taxpayers.

In a
statement, Abu Ali explained that payers who submit their tax returns with
accurate information are immediately accepted and receive
tax reimbursements
electronically within a few days after filing.
The
AI system has been
implemented for first-year taxpayers, and its primary goal is
to facilitate the disbursement of tax reimbursements and the audit of returns.
Abu Ali emphasized
that
tax payers should not wait until the April 30, 2023 deadline to file tax
returns, given the considerable pressure placed on the tax website and
services.
Social
media influencersAbu Ali also
addressed the taxation of
social media influencers, stating that their income
is taxed just like to any other activity, specifically those residing inside
the Kingdom.
The tax
department has received a positive response from
social media influencers, he
added.
