AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation signed an agreement with a local contracting company to upgrade the Zara Maain/Sweimeh water station with a new 1,000-cubic-meter water reservoir and an alternative water pipeline worth $1.8 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.اضافة اعلان

Under the USAID-funded agreement, the reservoir and pipeline will be built to ensure the sustainability of water supply from the pumping station to other areas, improving the performance and efficiency of water resource use and the infrastructure of the water supply system.

The project is expected to be completed within six months.

The Zara station, which has a drinking water capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day — 38 million cubic meters per year — is one of the main systems for supplying water to Amman, according to Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammad Al-Najjar.

He said that, in coordination with USAID, the Ministry of Water is also replacing old pumps and installing new ones at every major station to ensure the water system's sustainability.
